A New Standard for Real-World Impact

The Even Mind

Seven Essential Disciplines for Staying Focused, Making Teams Better, and Leading in the Real World

In the real world, leadership isn’t a title you achieve. It’s how you show up when the pressure is on.

The Premise

Forged "In the Room"

Shortly after a big promotion early in his career, Google executive Alex Couture received a brutal assessment of his leadership from his own team: they didn’t respect him, and he wasn’t ready to lead. That career-altering feedback launched a decades-long study of what effective leadership actually requires.

In The Even Mind, Couture reveals the profound danger of the idea that leadership can be mastered through theories, models, and training programs alone. Instead, true leadership must be forged "In the Room"—in high-stakes situations where emotions run hot, resources are constrained, circumstances change, and you have to decide now what to do next.

Drawing on three decades of high-level leadership experience and lessons from organizations ranging from McKinsey and Bridgewater to the US Marine Corps and Big Tech, Couture introduces a revolutionary new framework built around the seven disciplines of the Leadership Temple.

For experienced executives and rising professionals alike, The Even Mind is an indispensable tactical manual and self-assessment guide to eliminating organizational fragility, exerting influence even without authority, and becoming better today than you were yesterday.

The Framework

The Leadership Temple

A modern leadership paradigm built upon seven interconnected disciplines, structured to guide you from internal resilience to systemic impact.

The Foundation

Develop self-leadership, resilience, and emotional intelligence to maintain an Even Mind under pressure.

The Pillars

Strengthen communication, collaboration, team leadership, adaptability, and the ability to create momentum through change.

The Pediment

Expand your capacity for strategic thinking, sound decision-making, ethical leadership, and long-term stewardship.

The Final Act

The Four Circles of Friction

The true value of this framework lies in its application: an innovative method of pressure-testing corporate principles beyond the boardroom, turning disciplines into real-world results.

4 Circles of Friction Diagram
01.

Immediate Family

Navigating high emotional stakes and vulnerability. The primary objective is quality and depth of connection through rigorous internal regulation.

02.

Extended Ties

Managing deep history and de-escalating long-standing social patterns. Requires the active deployment of diplomacy and empathy.

03.

Community

Resolving conflicts and aligning diverse interests. Relies heavily on fostering a shared sense of collective problem-solving.

04.

Public & Digital

Maintaining integrity in anonymous or transient spaces where zero safety net of prior relationship exists.
